God wants to interact with us on His terms

We can think in religious terms. We can relate to God in a critical and detached way. We can deal with God on an academic level. But living with God is an entirely different story.

All religions talk about a way of life – and all religions talk about a plan to follow.
What, then, is the big difference when it comes to God and our relationship with him?

Christian men and women around the world describe God as true friend and true counsellor. He is described as God who interacts with us and who expects things from us and who blesses us. He is described as God who wants to glorify himself through us and who wants to shine his light through us.
We are not merely instruments God wants to use. We are his beloved children – and He, the one and only God – wants to interact with us.
When we discover God in this way we are thrilled – until we realize that God’s interaction with us is entirely on HIS TERMS. It is not on our terms.

Well – of course not! You may say. I know that, I’ve read my Bible! Don’t talk about the basics. I don’t need milk. I need meat. I need something that helps me cope with my life as it is right now. Don’t preach the Gospel to me. I know the Gospel. After all, I am a Christian. I am God’s servant.
Is the Gospel milk? Is is just the how-to-get-saved-talk? Do we receive the Gospel message with joy - or are we bored by it? Has it become stale? Is it just a creed that we admit we believe in but we don't really seem to live in the reality of that saving grace?
Maybe Luke 8:13 can be a heavenly spark for you.

Are you (still) receiving the Word of God with joy?
